Advantages of Cold Rolled Steel in Metal Stampings
Customized Precision Galvanized Steel Metal Stamping Metal Parts

Enhanced Surface Finish: Cold rolled steel is well-known for its smooth, polished surface, which is achieved due to the lack of scale and other surface imperfections that are common in hot rolled steel. This superior finish not only improves the aesthetic qualities of parts but also minimizes the need for additional surface treatments, reducing costs and processing times.

Improved Dimensional Accuracy: During the cold rolling process, steel is compressed at room temperature, leading to tighter tolerances and better alignment. This precision is crucial for complex components in industries where exact dimensions are critical, such as aerospace and electronics.

Increased Strength and Hardness: The cold rolling process involves work hardening the steel, which enhances its yield strength and hardness. This makes cold rolled steel ideal for applications requiring high durability and resistance to deformation under stress, such as automotive parts and industrial machinery.

Better Formability: Despite its increased strength, cold rolled steel maintains good formability, especially in lower carbon grades. This allows for the creation of intricate shapes and deep drawing without compromising the material’s integrity, which is essential for manufacturing components with complex geometries.

Efficient Material Use: The consistency and predictability of cold rolled steel make it possible to optimize material usage, reducing waste and overall material costs. The ability to produce thinner, yet stronger sections can lead to lighter and more cost-effective designs.

Versatility: Cold rolled steel is versatile and can be used in conjunction with various finishing techniques, such as painting, plating, and welding. This adaptability makes it suitable for a wide range of applications across multiple industries, enhancing its appeal as a go-to material for metal stamping.

SPCE

Ultra-deep drawing cold rolled steel, annealing treatment to improve plasticity, elongation ≥42%, tensile strength ≤270 MPa, suitable for precision electronic parts, complex shape stamping parts (such as mobile phone frame).

DC01 (1.0330)

General cold-rolled low carbon steel, smooth surface (plating/spraying), tensile strength 270-410 MPa, yield strength ≤280 MPa, suitable for industrial equipment shell, simple stamping parts.

DC04 (1.0338)

Deep drawing grade cold rolled steel, high elongation, elongation ≥42%, tensile strength ≤270 MPa, suitable for car door inner plate, oil tank shell.

DC05 (1.0312)

Super deep drawing steel, excellent ductility after annealing, elongation ≥44%, tensile strength ≤260 MPa, suitable for high-end home appliance panels, precision instrument parts.

Sheet Metal Stamping Process
01.

Forming

Forming describes the process of transforming the flat metal into another shape by applying force. It is accomplished in one of several ways, depending on the design specifications for the part. With a series of operations, the metal can be altered from a relatively simple shape into a complex one.

02.

Blanking

Blanking is the most basic technique and initiates when the sheet or blank is fed into the press where the die cuts out the desired shape. The resulting piece is called a blank. The blank may be the desired part, also known as a fully finished blank, or it may continue to the subsequent step of forming.

03.

Drawing

Drawing is a more complicated operation and is how vessels or deep depressions are formed. Tension is used to carefully draw the material into a cavity to change its shape. Though the material might stretch while it’s drawn, technicians try to avoid stretching as much as possible to keep the material intact. Sinks, cooking equipment, and oil pans for vehicles are usually made with drawing.

04.

Piercing

Piercing is almost the opposite of blanking, but instead of saving the blanks, technicians use the material around the outside of the punched area. As an example, think of cutting biscuits from a rolled-out circle of dough. During blanking, the biscuits are saved; during piercing, on the other hand, the biscuits are discarded, and the hole-riddled remains are the desired outcome.

FAQ

Q: What is the best gauge for metal stamping?

A: It was completely counter-intuitive to me, but it's much easier to get a clear impression on thicker metal. Thinner gauges tend to bend around the stamps outer edge and diminish the depth of the stamp impression. I have the best luck with 22 gauge or thicker.

Q: How thick is stamped steel?

A: Typical sheet metal thicknesses used in stamping are 0.001 in. to 0.625 in. Although most stamping operations use sheet steel, special dies can cut and form steel bars up to 3 in. thick.

Q: What is the main advantage of using cold rolled steel for stampings?

A: The main advantage is its superior surface finish, tighter tolerances, and increased strength, which make it ideal for precision applications.

Q: How does cold rolled steel compare to hot rolled steel in terms of cost?

A: Cold rolled steel is generally more expensive than hot rolled steel due to its additional processing for improved properties.

Q: Can cold rolled steel stamping parts prevent rust? Does it require additional processing?

A: Cold-rolled steel itself has no anti-rust ability, and needs surface treatment (such as electric galvanizing, spraying, phosphating). Outdoor parts with galvanized sheet (CRCA), precision parts with electrolytic zinc plating (SECC).

Q: What is the standard for edge burrs of stamping parts?

A: General parts: burr height ≤0.1mm (such as GB/T 1804-m class).
Precision electronic parts: need to deburring (Ra≤0.4μm), using vibration grinding or electrolytic polishing.

Q: How do I choose between hot and cold metal stamping for my project?

A: Consider the complexity of the design, required material properties, production volume, and budget. Hot stamping is ideal for complex, high-strength parts, while cold stamping is cost-effective for high-volume production of simpler parts.

Q: What are the typical industries that use hot and cold metal stamping?

A: Hot stamping is often used in automotive, aerospace, and military industries for parts that require high strength and durability. Cold stamping is prevalent in electronics, consumer goods, and appliances where high volume and lower costs are prioritized.

Q: Can hot and cold stamping be combined in one project?

A: Yes, some projects may benefit from both techniques to optimize different components of a single product, utilizing the strengths of each process as needed.

Q: What's your payment method?

A: T/T, L/C, Western Unions,
